Air Force One Boeing 757 At Morristown (MMU)

Sun Sep 24, 2017 8:43 pm

This is one of those times I wish I lived back in my home town. I never thought there would be a 757 (or whatever the military designation is) at the little airport at Morristown NJ. The largest plane I ever saw there was a PeoplExpress 737-130 back in the 80s.

Pretty exciting for KMMU today!

He doesn't use it, so has to be family members in town. No pics?

N62NA, are you talking about Air Force One or N757AF?
It would have helped if you could have been more specific, not just stating "President Trump 757" in the title.

He said military designation, so I'm assuming it's a C-32.

Yes, Air Force One. I believe it is too late for me to edit the title of the topic unfortunately. But the point is to see a 757, any 757 at KMMU is amazing. Narrow taxiways, 5598 foot runway.

He has used the C-32 to Morristown before, so that must be the airframe this time.

The US military 757 is Air Force 2 and used by the vice presedent. Only time the 747 is Air Force 1 i when the president is on or using the plane. any others and it becomes air force 2. Fust as when he uses a military helicoptor it becomes Air Force 1.

If it is Trumps Private 757 it cannot b used as Air Force 1 unless it's heavily upgraded and approved for Presidential use. I find it hard to beleive the Air Force would allow that with a plane that was bought used.

757 can easily T-O from KMMU's runway, but yes would be fun to watch.

Having grown up in that town in the 70s and 80s when the big excitement was when a twin engine prop would land / takeoff, I would have never dreamed such a large plane would operate into the airport.

As the helicopters are almost always operated by the Marines it goes by the designator "Marine One" when the president is onboard.

Air Force 1 isn't specifically a 747, it's any Air Force plane carrying the President.

Air Force 2 isn't specifically a 757, it's any Air Force plane carrying the Vice President.

If the President flies a shorter domestic leg on a 757 (C-32 in the military), that flight carries the callsign "Air Force 1".

The helicopter normally used to transport the President is operated by the United States Marine Corp. When the President is on board it carries the callsign "Marine 1". If the President flies in an Army or Navy aircraft, it would use "Army 1" or "Navy 1" as it's callsign.

This is at least the third time he's been there since August for a cumulative of roughly 20 days. It forces horrendous reroutes for TEB bound aircraft, because the JAIKE THREE arrival runs through the TFR when he's at his golf club. He was there before going to the UN, too.
